Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) filed an amendment to S. 1177, the Every Child Achieves Act that would further ensure that every child in Arizona has access to a high-quality education, especially low-income students. Specifically, the amendment would enable states like Arizona to highlight the importance of initiatives that would expand and replicate high-performing public charter, magnet, and traditional public schools for low-income students:

"Arizona is home to some of the best public schools in the country, but in a time of limited resources, it is critical that we use our education funds to bolster programs that are proven to provide the best-quality education for our kids," said Senator McCain. "Right now, public funds meant to help low-income students are largely reserved for poor-performing, failing schools. This amendment would enable Arizona to highlight how it could use these funds instead to expand and replicate highly performing, low-income charter schools, magnet and traditional public schools, which are providing students across our state top-rate education and will continue to have a profound impact on their academic development and future success."
